3DS Max 2011: Need aniamtion help

I know its a rather simple thing, but it hasn't been working for me.
All I have to do is get three parts to move on a logo I have made. However for some reason all my parts are bound together and I cannot move them independently. Also, when I try to make key frames they keep disappearing.

Here is a copy of the file I'm working with.

Damn, I'd probably be able to help if I had 3DS Max. Are the different parts of your logo, different objects? That could be a problem if you joined the meshes up.

If only you were using Blender.

Going from Blender knowledge, you've probably made it all one mesh. Try making them different objects and parenting the objects you wish to move to a main body instead of joining them into one mesh. You shouldn't have any problem independently moving the parts then...?

This is what I wanted to say but I wasn't sure if the terminology was the same.
