This isn't a joke or a jumping to conclusions. This is a reliable source who knows a lot of whats going on in the industry, and I believe this is the end.

Everwild was in development hell for years only for it to get canned. Sea of Thieves is shutting down. Barely anyone from the golden days are left, and seemingly no new projects are on the horizon.

I knew this day would come soon, unfortunately. I don't know where to begin, the amount of positive impact Rareware and its staff had on my life and career.

Expect Rare to be gone by the end of the month.

It's devastating. Whether it's a full shutdown or laying off some of the staff, it's gonna put a lot of people out of work. Sea of Thieves, as much as I like it, has been kind of circling the drain for awhile and I can't imagine how much longer they'll keep supporting it. Microsoft will continue to hold onto all their legacy IP and do ****all with it besides license it out for Fangamer merch.

What is Rare even DOING right now outside Sea Of Thieves DLC? How did a studio this phenomenal fall apart THIS badly? I'm not looking to blame I'm just in awe that Microsoft spent all this dinero buying the company and for 20 years they were just like 'Eh, we could make a quadrillionty dollars by helping Rare flourish and capilizing on their fantastic IPs, but we don't really feeeeeeeeel like it'.

How we never even got to see gameplay of Everwild is beyond me. Feels like nothing was really happening behind the scenes with that at all. Shame, cause it looked nice from the initial trailer. Would be nice if they would share what was done for archival purposes, but I doubt they'd be allowed to.

Incredibly sad to hear, but I'm not surprised. Gregg Mayles leaving after the Everwild cancellation was Rare's dying breath, I think. Even if the impossible happened, and Nintendo bought them up to have them start working on old IPs again, all the people that made Rare special are gone.
