No, they had no choice but to scrap the project because RAMBUS INC screwed them over. It's not Rare's fault. Read Slapphappy's thread "Don't Blame Rare Blame Rambus" for more info.

It would have been too late by then my friend. Banjo Kazooie was already released by that time with SNS code fully implemented. There is no way they could have fixed it OTHER than implementing the method that's currently in BT(the cheesy bk cart's).

What I'll never understand is why didn't they just make it a memory card swap to begin with?

I mean, it's not like the technology wasn't there. The Suikoden series had a memory swap and that originally came out in 96 or something. I'm aware it's a bit different, due to Kazooie having to read data in a game that didn't exist yet, but if the code in Tooie was decided in Kazooie, so the memory could be forwards and backwards compatible with each other, then I don't see what the issue would have been to opt for Rambus instead.

Then again I'm not a hacker or programmer, so maybe it's more complicated than that, but it seems like a strange gamble to make with new software.

'Banjo Kazooie: Stop... err, we mean, MemoryPak and Swap Edition!'

Because without people to try and push innovation, we would never advance...

True, the n64 itself was very innovative.

this is probably a really dum question but I always get so wrapped up in the mystery of stop n shop I then realise.... what the hell would these eggs and key actually give us? Would it really have been that great? I bet if we got answers it would be such a major let down :/
