Technically is BK and BT the spin offs?

Donkey Kong Arcade were both Mario's and DK's (Yeah, I know it's Cranky, stop bitching about it mofo) first games.

Does this mean all Mario and DK games we're getting are complete spin offs too? They have, like, nothing in common with the old Arcade game.

No, but I can see where you are coming from. While you can say Banjo-Kazooie is a spin-off of Diddy Kong Racing, you can't say Banjo-Kazooie (1999) is a spin-off of Banjo-Pilot (2004).

The originals definitely aren't spin-offs, but vehicles may become big in the series in the future.

You're counting games that aren't even Banjo's. Diddy Kong Racing and Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing aren't Banjo games. The first games in the series are platformers, and that's the focus of the games, so it's a platforming franchise that was turned into a vehicle-based franchise after BK3.

I'm pretty sure BK was planned to come out before DKR, which would have given Banjo's cameo a bit more context. But something about about development made DKR come out first. So, BK is the first game.
