Posts Pertaining to Particularly Peculiar Power-Ups
The Mario franchise has had a ton of power ups over the years. Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and Starmen are the most commonly seen. However, this thread is about the lesser used power ups. What is your favorite form that doesn't show up a lot?
Personally, I'm really fond of the Hammer Suit. I wish that form would show up again. Did you know it is the only SMB3 power up to not show up since its debut?

That blows my mind in regards to the hammer suit. I could never figure out the cape in SMW, but my favourite is always gonna be Tanooki Mario. So many fond memories of flying through levels.

This power-up is TERRIBLE but I always force myself to use it for shenanigans' sake.

All the power-ups from SMB3 are great. The Super Leaf/vanilla Raccoon Mario is still my favorite flying power-up ever. That image of Raccoon Mario on the front of the box is super iconic. Outside of that, my favorite is probably the Penguin Suit. It has all the advantages of the Frog Suit with none of the drawbacks. (The ice balls are probably a little broken, though.)
I remember reading somewhere that the Hammer Suit was supposed to be in 3D Land, but playtesters couldn't tell where they were aiming. I think they could've solved that by making a reticle appear where the hammer will land when you press and hold B. Then you could strafe around to aim and release to throw.

That sounds pretty annoying to do in a platforming game. I already hated doing the thing with the pans Hammer Bros in Odyssey.

That's why there's gotta be an upside. Something that makes it worth the trouble. Hammers can take out fireproof enemies like Buzzy Beetles, for example.
...then again, I'm pretty sure there are no Buzzy Beetles in 3D Land.

I always liked the Tanooki (not Raccoon) suit, it seemed like such a strange addition to the game.

I'm playing Galaxy on 3D All-Stars and I have to say, the Red Star/Flying Mario is probably the lamest flying power-up ever. It's very fun to use, but what's with that color scheme? It's ugly, and nothing about it indicates that it's related to flying. They should've just brought back the cape or the raccoon leaf.

The Red Star allowing Mario to fly is actually a reference to the Soviet Union, as the Sputnik I was the first spacecraft to fly through space. Red Stars are common communist imagery.
I agree though. Flying Mario seems like an unnecessary, last minute addition.
