Koopa Troopa reference in Finding Nemo?

I was watching Finding Nemo yesterday, and I noticed that the baby turtles in the movie has green and red colored shells just like the Koopa Troopas in Super Mario Bros. I think it's a reference to Koopa Troopa but I'm not sure. What do you think, do you think it's a reference or not?

I don't think so, though it looks like it. Let's look.

Finding Nemo sea turtle. (Squirt)

IRL sea turtle.

They were surely modeled after those.

There are Turtles with Green Shells and Red Shells.

There are Koopas with Green Shells and Red Shells.

There are Pixar Turtles with Green Shells and Red Shells.

As long as Pixar doesn't start including Blue and Yellow shelled Turtles, I think it's safe to say that both Koopas and Pixar Turtles were based off of actual turtles.

After some research I found that the sea turtles from Finding Nemo are either Hawksbill Turtles or Eastern Pacific Green Turtles. (Chelonia Mydas.) I can't really say, (Probably the latter,) and a reliable answer wasn't found. I did look into both species though, and neither one of them are supposed to live to be close to 150 years old, which is how old Crush said he was. I did find some other things that said sea turtles in general can live up to 150 years, but it's not clear. I kept seeing just that they lived to 80-100 but no more.

I did read that color varies within species though, and Chelonia Mydas range from red to green and more, so it's not much of a stretch.
