Not Sully. Not even Mike Wazowski. Just the idea that this Pokemon's design might--by some very wide outside chance--be able to be perceived as a ripoff of a band of legendary Lego heroes

I know Bionicles technically fall under the Lego brand, but hearing them called as such leaves a deep wound.

there is something about pokemon that just feels extra empty when ya think about the old gens
but a comfy empty like liminal emptiness all those precious bits of data just sitting in the the cartridge

The new Pokemon seems neat, but I'm afraid the shortcomings I've been hearing about will mean that playing it will just make me long for a game that doesn't exist.

I'm having a blast with it but it has managed to glitch out and crash at least twice! seriously how many switch games crash?

I've played a good 20+ hours of Arceus and... it is by far the best Pokemon game that I've played. They did away with all of the slow and grindy bits and made an extremely addictive gameplay loop. Had to finally stop playing for a bit because I have a lot of chores to get done, but I wanna go right back again. Shiny hunted a Stantler and then randomly found a shiny (male) Combee and Kricketune at full odds by sheer dumb luck and listening for that sparkle. Will probably be the first Pokemon game that I get 100% of everything in it. I hope going forward they keep this formula and improve upon it, because I doubt many people will be able to go back to the past games slog after this, outside of nostalgic revisits.
I also went into it knowing as little as possible so I could figure out all the secrets by myself. I thankfully haven't seen too many new Pokemon spoiled yet, and I'm only maybe just about halfway through the story so far, as I've just been going around doing the research for each species before continuing.

Ok, that makes me feel a bit more confident about checking it out.

The only 'complaint' that I have is that I know the graphics could look /much/ better on the Switch, but that only really is noticeable from extremely far away scenes, otherwise the improved animations of each Pokemon and the little details they show, like tracking eye movement, really add to the immersion. I assume the Pokemon Company didn't want to risk spending massive amounts on a different style game just yet, but hopefully this is successful enough that the next game (hopefully a whole new gen) has this style of game play but improved even further.
Also this comes from someone who hated the Wilds of Sword/Shield. I thought they were barren and lifeless, and completely defeated the point of exploring for new Pokemon cause they were all just handed to you easy. I'd love a game with this type of game play but in more confined and detailed routes/towns for a future generation of Pokemon. Making speed be more important is also HUGE for making other more forgotten Pokemon at least usable.

I picked it up. It's kinda neat. Everyone seems to be complaining about the massive load of menial tasks you have to perform in order to fill pokedex entries, but it doesn't seem that bad so far. The only real issue I have with that is how quickly my PC is getting filled up with duplicate pokemon I have to manually release one by one. I think it would have been better if the expedition results screen let you choose which new mons you wanted to keep and which to throw back. Only other thing I dislike are all the long boring cutscenes and the generally uninteresting story. But this is a Pokemon game, so I can't really expect much there.
Otherwise, game is fun. Love how much things have been streamlined. If Gamefreak doesn't keep the new movelist system for future games I may have to eat my copy of the game in protest.

Which starter did you guys pick? I went with Cyndaquil, since Gold/Silver were pretty great.
