IIRC, 3DRipperX uses DirectX-based plugins/emulators to rip model data. If you're using Dolphin as your emulator, by default, it uses the OpenGL plugin to render graphics. I think it used to have a DirectX-based graphics plugin, but it doesn't seem to in the latest complies. Thus, 3DRipperX won't work here. Alternatively, you could open up the GCM file and see if the models are written in a known format that can be extracted/converted (BMD is one I know there's tools for, but I believe BMD is only used in first party Nintendo games; some other formats have tools written, but you'll have to hunt for them).
If you're using the PS2 version (thus your emulator is most likely PCSX2), I'm pretty sure it uses OpenGL as well. But, I haven't messed with PS2 emulation in awhile, so I could be wrong.
