I think it'd be interesting to allow the player to select which region to start with. Then have them move in order. E.g. Start with Hoenn, move to Sinnoh, then Kanto and Johto

This way players can start with literally any start Pokemon they wish and play their favorite region first (or least favorite first to get it over and done with). Plenty of ideas for a Pokemon Rainbow just doubt it will happen.

So I'd have to get a 3DS for this next game? This would make 5 games worth playing on the 3DS so that would be the push. That being said, I'll wait until I see the product.

How would you handle the level scaling?
By the time you've been through two regions you'll be able to stomp everything.

Just change the mechanics of leveling up for that game.

I'd place level caps. Region one maximum level your Pokemon can get is 25, region 2 = 50, region 3 = 75 and region 4 = 100.

The number of experience points given out for a win would have to change to make sure you don't hit level 25 (for example) too soon but that's easy enough to do.

Instead of level caps and scaling to certain levels I'd rather just have EXP earned to be severely gimped.

This would mean you'd get stuck at level 20 for all eternity until you progress, just like level 80 now. That'd suck big time.

Might be more acceptable if the level cap were 200 with 50 levels per region.

Why don't you just force the players to start over with a new party?
They get a new starter from that region and can't use out-of-region pokemon until they earn some sort of license by completing the league/getting all gym badges or some other errand.

But currently it's what you do every time you get a new game.

Because they are separate games, not the same one.

I don't see your point.
Moving to a new region is the same as moving to a new game. Do you trade over your old game's party and use it in the new one to crush every gym and the elite 4?
No.
Even if you wanted to they wouldn't respond to your commands because you haven't earned what's needed to use them yet.

No one would want to be forced to completely change their party whenever they started a new region. Being forced to do anything when there could be alternative choices is not GOOD. It's not FUN. People can start anew every region if they like, but you shouldn't make them.

We start anew every time we get a new game because they're DIFFERENT GAMES, not a bundle game. You lose one of the appeals of having these games combined in the first place if you have to start over whenever you finish a fifth of it.
