When is the best time to buy a console?
Hey friends, Masked Hero here with a question for you! When is the best time to buy a video game console? Are you the type of person that orders a console as soon as you hear it is announced or do you wait until a few games have come out first? Inquiring minds want to know.
I typically buy them at the start. That way I can keep up with new releases. This generation, however, I'm currently considering getting a PS4 or just waiting for the PS5 to come out.

I now have a PC so I'm not worried about buying new consoles anymore but when I did I would always get one of them and buy the other ones later on in their life span so I could: Buy one from a friend, get one cheap at a used game shop, or get a really good bundle/sale. Like for the era we're in right now I got a PS4 on launch and then bought the Xbox One from my roommate. The nice thing about waiting is that all the games go on sale too which is nice, if you're poor, 'cause I am.

I stay out of it the first year or so, game library is built and hardware faults and sottware bugs can be worked on.
Same to PC upgrades. Always observe what happens first.

I've been buying consoles at launch for basically my whole life up to this point, but weirdly I don't feel inclined to do so anymore. Unless there is a launch title that I desperately want to play, I doubt I will be shelling out $400+ on the new Playstation or Xbox consoles whenever they release. There would have to be a new Banjo on Xbox or something that really gets me going like Elder Scrolls to drive the purchase.
When it comes to Nintendo I will always get the new consoles at launch, unless its a 3DS XL kind of situation of course. Chances are Nintendo always will have a game that I am passionate about to drive my launch day purchase because I nerd out about all those IPs. |

Golden rule is that if you can't afford to buy something twice, you can't afford to buy it.
