Decided to #treatyoself and buy the Borderlands collection the day it dropped on Switch. Sitting at about lvl 14 using Mordecai and been having a blast. Was worried the OG Borderlands would be a bit bland compared to BL2 but it's been pretty good so far. The enemies become stupidly bullet-spongey as soon as you get into multiplayer tho which kinda sucks.

I started that new Haze file. It’s a strange game and I think some younger people used to very polished shooters like CoD and Halo and such would get a bad impression from how it begins. I have a lot of patience for FPS and I can’t remember anything so bad I stopped playing though. The shooting feels all right, I’d prefer to skip the cutscenes if it were an option. I didn’t know it had both co-op and death match multiplayer, though I’m sure it’s all shut down by now.

Mainly the game is making me think of how often people like to dismiss games outright and use them as punchlines, especially stuff like this which doesn’t get made anymore. It’s rare you get a game with absolutely no redeeming features. That’s something computer games have over other things - no matter how bad the game, you have an experience in trying to overcome the problems and getting through it, and sometimes that process can create a strange bond with you and the game. But we make the cheap punchline because that’s easier
I’m not saying Haze is that bad, it’s okay so far, it’s just I can imagine the game mostly serves this function if it ever gets mentioned at all online by people who probably never played it |

Yeah I’ll now try that Spongebob Squarepants game I was moaning about. I have it on GameCube I think. I was being flippant for the purpose of a representative truth

Duke Nukem Forever principle. Easier to dismiss DNF than give it a go, but playing it is the more memorable and substantive experience even if all the criticisms are accurate. Higher barrier for entry, higher reward
“But why would you waste your life playing something bad” Achievement Hunter principle. Always admired people who played games only to score Achievements “Don’t you know Gamerscore is arbitrary? You don’t get any material rewards for having a high GS score, in fact people will think you are a loser. You’re wasting your life” MVP athlete mentality principle. Being able to construct abstract value systems organically in order to motivate yourself into achieving things, even without environmentally-observable reward stimulus. The little chime when you get an Achievement helps, but beating Open Season for the points takes MVP athlete mentality. It’s not a life for everyone. The point is you create a deceptive abstract value system to allow yourself to experience a journey. And I’m sorry for making five posts in a row.

Got back into Into the Breach lately. It feels really awesome when you find the line to deal with more than 3 enemies in the same turn, but it also feels really bad when you... ignore environmental hazards as part of that plan.

Oh God, I definitely downloaded Dash of Destruction solely for the Achievements.

I remember really enjoying Doritos Dash of Destruction and Doritos Crash Course, and also really enjoying Doritos.
