Banjo Theories Guidelines : READ BEFORE POSTING

As most of you know, there has been a lot of tension in this forum recently for one reason or another, with arguments breaking out all over the place, personal attacks against users, and general hostility. I put this list together as a general guideline for everyone, new or otherwise, to avoid the clashes we've seen in recent times. To be fair, a lot of it has died down, but even so keep these in mind when posting:

DO NOT HIJACK THREADS. If you have a new idea, please make your own thread about it. One of the most common causes of arguments here is that people post their theories / discoveries in threads which were created specifically to discuss something else, which understandably frustrates whoever created the thread.

DO NOT ATTACK A THREAD. If you see a theory which is, in your opinion, ridiculous / untrue / impossible / old, please either ignore the thread altogether or explain this in a calm and rational manner. Flaming posters for their opinions is not only unhelpful, it also makes it much harder for other users to take your own views seriously.

REPORT ANY PROBLEMS. If you are flamed, or you see a flame war taking place, PLEASE don't get involved in it or flame others in retaliation. Regardless of who you think is to blame, it is 99.9% guaranteed that whoever else is involved won't agree with that - rarely does someone freely admit that a problem is their fault. If you see one, click the [!] report button above the message to report it, and stay well away from it after that.

KEEP IT CLEAN. If there is a major disagreement, there are a wide variety of options open to you which do not involve using blatant insults or profanities. Many of these are already filtered by VBulletin for good reason - and most of the time, using said words will actually cause people to take you less seriously.

WATCH YOUR TYPING. It sounds obvious, but a LOT of problems we've seen here recently can be attributed to the fact that the initial poster's message was completely incomprehensible. Anyone using Mac OS X or FireFox will notice that the computer actually spellchecks for you as you type so any typos become obvious, but for those on windows, if you find that people are repeatedly criticizing your grammar/spelling, you can paste it into MS Word, which will point out any major typos.

DO NOT POST IN ALL CAPS UNLESS IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT
All caps topics, unless they are announcing a genuinely massive new discovery or idea, are not appreciated - posting an "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!" topic because you've just noticed that Banjo doesn't have a tail, or that the sky being blue is a clear reference to the Blue SnS egg does not, oddly, go down very well with the general public

USE THE SEARCH BUTTON. One of the main causes of exasperation for the older members here is seeing the same old theories which have already been proven as hoaxes revived again and again as more and more people discover them on websites which haven't marked them as such. a common example is the "Sunken Ship" cheat which has been posted several million times over the last few years. If you find something like this, do a quick search for it using the "search this forum" button to make sure it is genuinely a new discovery. You could also check the "Common & Disproven Theories" sticky.

And finally, just remember that this is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable experience. What happens on this forum will not, in all probability, have a profound effect on your enjoyment of life, so going completely crazy whenever something here annoys you is a complete waste of your time. If you don't like a thread, just don't read it! If something genuinely does need to be taken care of, just click the report button [!] and we'll handle it from there. Participating in wars only makes more work for is - which in turn will ensure that we can't deal with whatever it is you want us to deal with.

With all that said, enjoy yourselves, and don't forget to try the RWPunch:

What... Spiked? No no no... How could you say such a thing *whistles innocently*
