Exclamation K. Rool's... BROTHER!?

I got the King K. Rool trophy in Smash Brothers Brawl the other day, and I was surprised to see that Kaptain K. Rool was referred to as his brother in the little character description. My initial thought was that the new careless Nintendo had underplayed the "master of disguise" joke about the character; (that he uses a marginal costume in an attempt to disguise himself as a totally different persona, which fools everyone but Cranky) besides, in the instruction manual for DK64 it mentions the Kaptain specifically as the King's alter ego.

But then I got to thinking... is he actually supposed to be a different character? There is no mention of Baron K. Roolenstein (the weakest incarnation in my book) and perhaps the Kaptain was indeed supposed to be a separate persona. Is Nintendo simply using Rare's absence to create a new mythology for the DKC series, (too many DKC character trophies mention Barrel Blast as part of the canon) or did we simply never find out about the Rool family?

Nintendo is stupid that's what. Kaptain K. Rool is the same character just in a different costume.

I agree on the Nintendo-being-stupid idea. It's just like in Melee. They just put anything on those trophies.

Mario Trophy:

Mario was first conceived in a pizzeria underneath an old italian guys' house in Sicili when a serial rapist came in and raped all the pizzas. Nicknamed "Mario the Rapist," he was wanted for burglary and rape of at least two counts, one woman by the name of Peach and the other Pauline. Peach was found locked in the basement of the pizzeria. Pauline was found dead wrapped in a giro. It was believed that Mario had a brother who aided him in an aid and a bedding. His real name was never released but he was known by some as "The Lean Mean Green Machine." Mario and Mr. Lean Mean escaped into a sewer after a high speed chase. They were never heard from again.

Well the trophy gallery in Brawl IS fairly inaccurate. Unless we are to believe that Kirby's whole series is called "Kirby Super Star."

Aww, seriously?! They're spreading lies about K. Rool now!

K. Rool has alter egos, or multiple personalities... I always felt that he didn't quite have control over it, like each time after the shock of getting defeated, he'd convince himself he was a pirate or a mad scientist or something new, both in an attempt to fool the Kongs, and an attempt to fool himself that he'd be more powerful than his "old self" if he took on an alternate persona. It adds to his brillaint-yet-somewhat-insane appeal.

How could anyone think it was his brother? That's just... silly. I'd like to be able to look at the trophies as a reliable source of info on games I've never played, but it seems that's not the case. However, I'm sure some people out there will believe it, creating even more confusion about the DK series in general. Now some younger-generation gamers are going to think there are multiple K. Rools running around out there.

Oh, but isn't Barrel Blast part of the canon? I haven't played it yet, but it's very faithful to Rare's vision of the DK world, isn't it? It was made by PAON, and they at least have their facts straight.

They also said Diddy's Barrel Jetpack is in DK Barrel Blast, when it's really an entirely new jetpack.

Not really. They manage to use the same characters (which imediately puts them above everything Nintendo's done with the series), but their actual depiction is questionable.

I see. I guess I'll have to play it for myself and judge.

I do really love the new Kremlings though.

DKBB can't really be canon anyway because there's no storyline.

I noticed this too. It doesn't seem that Nintendo put a lot of effort in researching their own games for the trophy descriptions. Case in point:

From Dark Samus's Trophy description: "A twin image of Samus, encountered near the beginning of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Dark Samus is identical to Samus in every way but color-- she even uses similar attacks. There are many theories on the origin of Dark Samus, but none are proven. Dark Samus uses Phazon for energy and can absorb it to heal damage. Samus encounters Dark Samus a number of times."

(I know this doesn't really belong in the DK section, but it does pertain to the thread in question)

Oh wow. I saw that the other day along with a lot of other inaccuracies. I was hoping they were just bad translations because I only saw the trophy descriptions from the Japanese game but they managed to carry them over when they localized it.
