Leak of Nintendo console source codes; debug roms for 3DS and Pokemon



ResetEra thead

This has been ongoing for a couple of weeks it seems, and more keeps coming out. I'm not entirely sure what it all means, but the thread's list of leaks includes:

-Source code for boot0/1/2
-Block diagram/datasheets for every system component & Verilog for AES/SHA
-Documents from BroadOn describing feature planning and implementation + APIs + docs for internal software
-Full IOS SDK
-Source code for IOS (IOS is the Wii Operating System)
-Planning docs for implementation of the system from 2004-2006
-some wii sdk library source code (DVD, EXI)
-source code and info on manufacturing and publishing systems
-some misc. nintendo stuff (internal WPAD SDK from 2005, Wii Overview from RVL_SDK 1.0)
-"sdboot", a special manufacturing version of boot2 which loads data from the SD card; is very buggy and likely exploitable for boot2 code execution on all Wiis (it is retail signed)
-gamecube and ique stuff as well (internal gamecube docs including physical disc layout, massive 2GB+ iQue dump including full CVS for that as well)

These leaks are popping up on 4chan, and seem to be related to a data beach at the BroadOn company -- the company Nintendo hired for development of the Wii.

The thread includes a video for one of the N64's test roms.

Footage from other roms are on the uploader's channel.

Some individual or entity is likely to get the hell sued out of them, but it's cool to get to see all this. Also, I'm not too sure on this, but this could be really good for emulation, couldn't it? Not that Dolphin isn't already a fantastic emulator.

Edit: the Super Mario 64 source code was compiled into a fanmade PC port of the title.

There's nothing in current leaks that would intimate that, since this is mostly code relating to Nintendo's work in China it seems like

btw: the entire source code for the Nintendo 3DS’ operating system has now been leaked on 4chan, alongside the source code for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

doesn't seem to be any unseen prototype pokemon. Gamefreak apparently started finalizing pokemon designs before implementing them into their games at this point. However, we learned a Nvidia-powered Nintendo 3DS was in development at some point.

The Mario 64 PC port was actually well underway without any access to this leak! The game was already fully decompiled. It's basically just coincidence that they became known around the same time.

z64me released a patch with the early maps added to the Master Quest debug rom. If you guys are interested, I kinda want to try making a video of it running on real N64 hardware while going over my thoughts on the early maps. My mic is a cheap piece of shit though, so don't expect amazing production quality. Might do this over the weekend.

This one is listed as Plane Test on z64me's patch. I believe it's supposed to be a level of detail test map, as I saw in a thread someone posting pictures of an object in the map that changes from a triangle into a cube depending on how far away Link is. I haven't tested it on an emulator yet, but running on my N64 this map crashes if you try to turn the camera around. It's not like a normal crash though. The crash debugger doesn't run, which doesn't work in the debug ROM anyways, but normally it should at least print a red line to show that the crash debugger tried to run but crashed. The game also renders the next frame when I reset the console. I suspect something is causing the game to go into an infinite loop here, and resetting breaks that loop for some reason.

I realized I can't keep a coherent thought going for longer than 30 seconds while talking to myself, so instead of analyzing the beta maps I just did a speedrun of beta Deku Tree instead. I'll probably throw something together using on-screen text later.
