Anybody else try Team Fortress 2 Classic? I've been obsessed with it lately. It's a mod of TF2 that makes it closer to the vanilla game from 2007 while also adding in a few cut weapons and ideas from when the game was in development. There's also some new features like 4 team mode and a new gamemode which is basically KOTH but with multiple control points.
I'm still alive by the way. I think I might have told you guys to consider me dead if I haven't posted in a certain stretch of time, which I might have surpassed.

I started playing Pikmin 2, and my roommate was like "Oh, this is just like Overlord." So then I tried Overlord and Overlord 2, which I hated.

Like for certain mechanics they ain't wrong. But thematically ehhhh. I played the Overlord demo when I had a subscription to OXM, and it appealed to 14 y/o Norris or however old I was then. I don't see that appeal translating tho, especially when Pikmin nails the whimsy-ness fmpov

It's just a matter of the sacrifices they make in order to make the game they wanted. They wanted the minions to be big and detailed and have personalities, and as a result, the game runs at a low frame rate, and the minions run at at least half that frame rate.
And also as a result, you can never have as many minions as you have Pikmin. It's just not nearly as satisfying and you don't have nearly enough control over them for it to be fun. |

Ah **** that makes sense. The limitations of technology on art is interesting.
(This might be a better post for random thoughts but I'm gonna run with it, don't tell the mods) Creativity will always thrive imo, and this will be proven when limitations are placed on the tools that we have available. Often there will be concepts or ideas that are ahead of their time, where the technology available can't keep up with that vision. Ideally this would mean that as technology increases and becomes more versatile then the end-product will be greater. I do believe we are in a golden age of gaming, however what will the lasting appeal of big blockbuster games of 2020 be in comparison to let's say Ocarina of Time? I believe that there is a difference between being enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing and straight up art. I'm struggling to figure out how to wrap this thought up to have a meaningful conclusion, so will basically get to the point I had when I first started writing. Roger Waters and what he does with his live touring show is the greatest example of not only art within limitations, as a lot of Pink Floyd was written in the 60's with technology from back then. But as technology has caught up with the visions and concepts he had in his head, his shows have just become more transcendent fmpov, and the message he has shines through even greater as a result. I'm back on the Ni No Kuni train, will see this story through despite how grindy JRPG boss roadblocks can be.

also hi i've been on a big vn kick i'm reading tsukihime and aoishiro. tsukihime is a classic doujin vn that will probably be hugely improved whenever its remake comes out but there's still interesting stuff in the original. aoishiro is a fun supernatural yuri vn it hits my lesbian heart. i hope the fate/extra remake is good i'm hyped for a version of that game that gets rid of the parts i don't like and also looks really pretty i also finished my when they cry journey the other day, after reading all of higurashi and umineko i read ciconia phase 1. they're weird and janky and have a lot of issues and they're some of the most relatable things i've ever read, i highly recommend them Last edited by The Colonel; 23rd July 2020 at 06:21 AM. |

What, might I ask, are you doing with Goldeneye? Multiplayer/story/time trials? I would like to go back to my 100% attempt, but I fear the exploding hallways of Silo 00 Agent.

Oh cool. Aztec is one of the best levels in any game ever.
I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on both, compared, when you're done with PD. I definitely prefer GE but I never beat PD. |

I have not heard of Tormented Souls until just now. It looks cool though.
Over-the-shoulder horror titles are great, but it's unfortunate that fixed-camera titles died out. Fixed camera angles are fantastic for horror when used effectively, like when the camera goes into these bizarre dutch-angles once you enter the other world during the opening sequence of Silent Hill.
