Before you get p!ssed off, this DOES include Stop 'n' Swop and it is a theory of why Nintendo and Rareware parted ways.
Stop 'n' Swop was going to be an AWESOME gameplay feature (Whether you still think it is there or not is irrelevant) and was going to spring Rareware into the huge leagues of game making. When nintendo said it wouldn't work and didn't license Stop 'n' Swop, Rare were very upset. They worked hard on this feature and didn't want to give it up. Then they got a call from Microsoft. Microsoft knew damn well that they wanted SNS no question asked. And therefore gave them an offer. If Rare worked for Microsoft, they would be able to finish SNS once and for all. The deal was accepted (Yes, it meant this much to them!) and there you have it. In the present day, SNS it bieng remade in the xBox Live Arcade and the new Banjo Kazooie game. Microsoft are keeping their promise. Rare actually still say they have a good relationship with Nintendo, Who knows. Maybe they will join again one day. Any comment, queries, anything to add? |

Firstly, rare was sold by Nintendo, not the other way round.
Basically Nintendo could see Rare were taking too long to produce their games and they weren't selling well afterwards. Banjo-Tooie didn't sell half as many as you guys think, Conker's Bad Fur Day sold even worse, and then on the Gamecube Star Fox Adventures just isn't really that good of a game. Microsoft were interested in buying them, Nintendo didn't think they were bringing in enough money and it would be a better business decision to sell them, and that's it and all there is to it. Nintendo didn't think they were financially viable and Microsoft wanted them, so they were sold. And then they went on to produce games which still didn't sell well at all like Conker Live and Reloaded, Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Perfect Dark Zero, until Viva Pinata came along when they made a good game again. |

Star Fox Adventure is a clear sign that shows how Rare was losing it's quality. You can't release games like crazy and not expect that to happen. Mickey's speedway, conker and star fox adventure while not bad games were a sign of theie quality declining due to them being forced to just release more and more games. Perfect Dark starts off great but then goes downhill in quality in the later missions. Banjo Tooie actually ended up better than banjo kazooie which is a bit of a surprise. Rare always did release some not so great games though. Diddy Kong Kart was pretty bad. Even when they were known as Ultimate they had a few lousy titles but back than they had great ones like Knight Lore and Jetpak. None of their nes titles were good and the only good snes one's were the donkey kong games. They always did release a few great games while also releasing many decent-poor titles. Battle corps wasn't very good also.

Also, Diddy Kong RACING was a good game, but it had more of a cult appeal as opposed to BK/T's very generic platform-based style. I recently completed CBFD, and yes it's different to their usual style, but it is designed to be an ADULT platformer, therefore it's designed to be annoying and infuriating. It doesn't mean it's a lack of quality.

There is no such thing as a company that has only released good games.

SNS had nothing to do with it. It was just a little feature they tried to put in to get kids to buy more games so they could unlock some little thing. Then it turned out it wouldn't work. So Rare was like "Meh." and then Nintendo sold Rare to Microsoft for whatever reason. Then everyone in the world was like "OMG OMG What is SNS???????? Will we ever know????? Mah GOD!" THE END.

No. No. No. NO. SNS had absolutely nothing to do with it. Not only that, but Rare didn't sell itself to Microsoft, Nintendo did.

I'm inclined to disagree. I liked the DS version a little better, but even that kind of sucks.
