Now YOU can do Stop 'n' Swop!
Hi everyone, it's been a while. Doesn't seem like this board is very active anymore, but I thought I'd drop this here first. I'll make a video later.
I've built a custom ROM that allows you to do Stop 'n' Swop the way Rareware intended it to be done with Banjo-Kazooie. You need a Banjo-Kazooie cartridge and a flashcart. After booting my ROM, you'll see a menu where you can select which Banjo-Kazooie SNS items you want unlocked. After selecting them, turn off the N64 and pop in Banjo-Kazooie and turn on within 20ish seconds. The area will now be unlocked in BK, go there and pick up the SNS items. After picking it up, turn the console off, put the flash cart back in, and it'll tell you which SNS items you have in BK. There's a few things to consider: - If your N64 model is NUS-CPU-08 or 09 this won't work. This is the main reason SNS was cancelled in the first place. - If you have a flashcart that starts with a menu, find the root ROM (like OS64.v64 for Everdrive) and make a copy backup. Then rename the stopnswop.z64 ROM to match whatever the root ROM was, so my ROM boots automatically. When you're done, just change the names back. ROM: https://github.com/user-attachments/.../stopnswop.zip Source: https://github.com/AdamRVierra/stop-n-swop-toolkit/ (libdragon must be installed to be used, I still need to write the readme later this weekend) Homebrew N64 developers can use this to finally make use of BK's SNS items. Also, can make their own SNS items to be exchanged between their own games! Maybe one day I or someone else will hook it up to Tooie... This wouldn't be possible without the team behind libdragon, the BK Decompilation team, wedarobi for finding the payload format, and Swako by making a video that inspired me to do this.

I had to check the date to make sure it wasn't April 1st, but this is awesome that anyone still cares enough to mod this into reality.

Glad you all like it.
I'm still fine tuning stuff to make it more reliable. I found out you can use it with ROM Hacks on stuff like Everdrive, which opens all sorts of possibilities with implementing this system in classic games that never had anything to do with this in the first place. Others asked me about popping it into Tooie, and that's something I really hope I or someone can get around to at some point. It raises questions like "What would the Green, Red and Cyan eggs do?", "what would you do in Tooie to actually unlock them" (doing them all at once just for having the game like in XBLA is boring imo), and "what to do with the existing BK carts in Tooie that had those SNS items"? It's doable, but its a project. That April fools stuff is something Ill never live down in this community, and rightfully so. I think the idea was funny but it dragged out too long and was an asshole who took it too seriously. I'm pushing 40 now, and regret how much it pissed some people off.

Im fairly certain it could be given more justice than what 4J Studios did. No offense to them as I don't know the timeline or other stuff, but I would've handled it differently.
