A GBTG Theory..
Well, the beta photo of project dream that Yamibakuragod posted, it looks somewhat like grabbed by the ghoulies. Maybe Rare took the engine and models they used and carried them over to grabbed by the ghoulies. This may explain the writing on the chalkboard in GBTG, giving a reference to the engine previously being use in Banjo Kazooie. Or maybe they just did it to torture us like we all know Rare would..

Banjo Kazooie was actually developed on the same engine that ran Project Dream, otherwise it would have taken longer than 2 years to actually make Banjo-kazooie alone.

Hmmm
If you ask me it looks like a cross between Quest( old N64 RPG game ) GBTG and Nightcaster on xbox

It's probably more along the lines of Rare borrowing certain elements from older game's and inserting them into GBTG. Kinda like DK64 borrowing level ideas and gameplay from BK.
