Cheater64 Hacking

Im not exactly experienced in code creation and would like some assistance. I know that you are reading this right now and are thinking to yourself, "uhg another NOOB???" I really would appreciate if someone would be kind enough to get me started despite how much effort the THINK it will take me to catch on. I learn quite quickly and only need an explanation of how to use Cheat64 to create simple codes, where to search ect.

Please help me out here.

You're gonna need two things:

-A copy of Renegade64 (read the whole post for relevant info)
-A copy of the Hacking Text. Although this was written for console-based hacking, the methods outlined (usually) also apply to emulator-based hacking.
-Windows Calculator in Scientific mode (View > Scientific) or a calculator that can handle hexadecimal. The TI-89 can, so if you have one, it'll work nicely.

N64 emulator-based hacking in a nutshell (using Renegade64):

-Start your emu and load your ROM.
-Open R64 and click Cheating > Attach to Emulator.
-Choose your emu from the list and click "Attach."
-Click Cheating > Code Search.
-Choose your search size. Since you're just starting out, you'll want to stick with 8- and 16-bit searches, which are the only kinds that the real GS can do (without extra software).
-Choose your RAM size. It should be "4MB" unless you're hacking DK64, Perfect Dark in hi-res, or anything else with the Expansion Pak enabled.
-Click the "I" button to make the initial dump of the emulator's RAM. This is basically the "New Search" button.

Now just follow along with the 'Text. I recommend starting with the easy stuff.

If you have any questions...well, you have the right forum.

Airman- Thanks for your positive support for noobs. lol.

OK so far I have created my first infinite coins code in Paper Mario. But the only thing i cant seem to do is make a health code... The instructions in the 'Text are a bit confusing. Any ideas?

Wow, I only got a bit into the bare, bare basics of binary, hex, and values
before my brain was fried.

Aghhhh.

Oh, and for the code searcher, I chose 8-bit(1 byte), compare to-start new,
RAM- 4 MB, search type- known value, value- 0, header- none, extended search options- none, and then clicked the "I", it said error,(?), then clicked
"search", it said error, and then stop running.

Isn't the purpose of this code searcher to find the RAM address, and to
do that select all RAM addresses currently assigned to a RAM of 0? For
example, if I choose to search for value '0', shouldn't all codes currently running in the game with the RAM 0 appear as results?

I'm a newb, please help .

Did you make sure you attached the program to the correct emulator?

"Cheating ---> Attach to emulator"
