I dont see what's wrong with The Gamesfactory. That program made one of the best Banjo fangames ever (which is now gone forever).

I'm in process of creating a fan game in game maker. I have alot of talented people involved so i'm probably going to keep going, but I HIGHLY regret using gamemaker EVER.
Also, you do not need a tutor for something as simple as gamemaker. Go to the 'Tutorials' page on yoyogames.com and just hit my first game or maze, then go to platformer. I suggest you start in Virtual Basic or C++, as that's actually how games are developed. Gamemaker is fun, but it's a toy. If you make a game in game maker, you can't really say I made a game unless you wrote every single bit in GML (Gamemaker Language, duh) and even then it isn't quite impressive either.

I, (The creator of this thread) Have moved onto MMF2, but I'll leave you all to solve each other's problems.

www.stencyl.com Make any 2d game you want with no programming required. Not out yet but when it is it will kill any other non 3d program.

You should all look at Microsoft XNA. It's really easy and plus you get to learn C# rather than wasting your time with Game Maker. I suppose it depends on whether you want to go somewhere with it.

I'm going to look at XNA as soon as I finish the game I'm currently making with Gamemaker. Honestly, I don't see what's wrong with Gamemaker. You can make some good games with it...
Here are a few screenshots of my game to prove that: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...S-Screen-7.png http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...S-Screen-3.png ... Oh, and I write everything with GML. Problem is, I don't know if XNA is going to work on my PC. I have quite an old PC ( and a graphics card that you can't replace with a new one ). My graphics card doesn't even support Pixel Shader 1. Last edited by Byvar; 5th February 2009 at 05:31 PM. |

Currently I'm using Multimedia Fusion 2. Not sure if it's any eaiser, but I have the stuff I need for XNA. Perhaps you could teach me sometime in the future. Ice.

Actually, what is suggested is that you learn C#, and then once you know how most things work, you can learn the XNA framework. Otherwise you'll have no idea what is going on and will be totally lost and sad.

It's a given that you have to learn the basics of a language before you even touch anything other than a text api. MMF2 and Gamemaker are both really simple compared to the real way most people have to make games. Get a good book on C# or C++ and learn up to classes and polymorphism (In C++, i don't know any C#) before you touch anything like DirectX or XNA.
