Gameshark not working for diddy kong racing.
I have a gameshark running 3.3, I believe, and it's been great for everything except this game. It will either not turn on when DKR is attached, or when it does, I'll pick my codes and start the game, only to have a black screen stare at me.
Another interesting thing, is that when I get the black screen, I turn off my N64, take out the the GS, and put in DKR by itself, to make sure it's not the cartridge. When I turn it on, I get a black screen with a wall of white, data-looking text. I hit reset and everything is fine. I kind of think it may be my cartridge, but I'm curious as to what's going on if it is. Any help would be great.

You need to enable the Diddy Kong Racing keycode in order to use it with the GameShark. Don't enable another keycode for a game you don't have, or you won't be able to turn the GameShark on until you have a game for that keycode.

I get a similar problem with my Equalizer. Though it's master code related, and gives me a nice 'flipped model faces' mode. Which is playable, but annoying.

I know that, I get everything running up until the game is supposed to start.

I have a gameshark that doesn't work either. it's on and all, but when I switch the N64 on, I get black.

The Gameshark is fine. It works with everything else. Just not until i try to START DKR.

If it works fine with every other game, I presume it would have to be the DKR cartridge itself.

Will it boot DKR without any codes enabled?
Gamesharks are flaky as hell. I revived one from the dead, only to have it go into factory service mode while I was messing with it. They will corrupt their memory if you try to add/delete too many codes at once, or if it's your unlucky day. |

Haha, that's a funny trick put in by Rare to poke fun at the people pirating it in the 90s. It happens when you use a common Mario-type bootcode with the DKR game data (this was right after people started doing that to play Starfox).
