I have no experience with RPG Maker, but I'm sure you can do that, I just don't know how.

Make the bridge an event that changes it's passability according to the situation(when on stairs, passable, when not on the stairs, the event with bridge graphics is over the hero)

I did it in a pretty simple way, maybe not the best, but it works.
Here's a picture how I did it. Let's say we call the switch "Under Bridge?". The dark blue-colored events turn this Switch OFF,means that you can walk over the bridge now.The light blue-colored turns the Switch ON,so you can walk under the bridge. Both activated by "on Hero Touch",of course. And now to the bridge tiles, which is the important section. On each bridge tile, you have to create two pages in the event editor.Page 1 is has no switch on (so you can walk over the bridge),where you have to set the tile to "below hero" in the middle and "Same Level as Hero" to the sides of the bridge. Then page 2,make the same tile as page 1 and turn the "Under Bridge"-Switch on the Event Conditions page on (so you can walk under the bridge).Set the tile to "over hero" and the left and right parts of the bridge (highlighted in yellow) to "Same Level as Hero",because the hero shouldn't be able to left via the left or the right when he's right under the bridge. Have fun. It's maybe not the best way to to this, but it works. |

Where do I set the tile to "below" / "same level as" hero? |

Wait, let me see if I have that.
EDIT: I have a slightly different layout (which version are you using?), but is this the the right idea? http://i28.tinypic.com/2eq6p6q.png Last edited by Rock; 22nd July 2009 at 07:14 PM. |

It seems you have XP (or VX?) while I'm using 2k.But yes, this is right. And don't forget to check the "trigger" listbox just below the "priority" listbox. You have to switch it to "On Hero Touch" or whatever it is called in this Version or else it won't work.

I'm not that experienced with RPG Maker, but couldn't you just put the bridge on a higher layer than the ground under it?

Even if you could put it on the upper layer, you couldn't change the passability.

It doesn't seem to work..

Are your Events, which trigger the switch on or off (the blue ones in my example) set on "Player Touch" (or whatever it is called in your version)?
Is every bridge tile in a two-paged event, one for the Switch OFF (over the bridge) and one for the Switch ON (under bridge)? It would also be nice if you can post a picture from the bridge part of your map in the event layer (just like my first picture). Last edited by Myriad; 23rd July 2009 at 11:44 PM. |
