I know what you mean, you have to use the touch screen to look around as well as to pop the balloons, it might of actually been fun if you were able to use the d-pad to control the camera...

EDIT: 300th post!

At first I was delighted with the game. New great music and all the stuff.
But very soon that delight turned into disappointment because on the game design level the game utterly fails. It is not *anywhere* near as good as the N64 original! There simply is no challenge at all to the racing in the DS version.
It's just wayyyyy to easy. I can take the slowest racer, give the opposition a thorough head start, deprive myself of any power-ups and not use any zippers - and I still find myself in the lead in after the first lap and easily win the race!!
After beating the 4 round championships you can't replay them anymore (unlike the N64 version).
Why the heck?!? It's an unbelievable omission.
Where are all the options (cheats) from the N64 version?
I'm missing the no weapons/powerups/zippers/whatever options from the N64. And most of all I miss the *HARD AI*!!! What a disappointment. Mario Kart DS is a 100 times better than this - and I hate to say that because I'm a big DKR64 fan...

The only area where this is better than Mario Kart DS is the technical execution of the Wi-Fi multiplayer racing. It much, much smoother than MKDS.

But all in all not good, Rare. Not good at all.
I'm quite on the fence about buying there next DS game...

Maybe it's all some big conspiracy and Microsoft are telling Rare to make their DS games suck so everyone switches to the (hopefully) upcoming Microsoft handheld!*

*No MS handheld has been announced but we live in hope...

DKR is a fabulous game. I enjoyed DKRDS but I hate the controls, new sounds/voices. And no Banjo =
Adding Dixie and Tiny was great and Dixie's my new fav character.
Tiny: tall and sexi(yeah right) =

I suck at it though, but it's still fun.

DKRDS>MKDS
DKR>MK64
DKR>DKRDS
DKR>Any other racing game

Taj is got a terrible voice too, same with the others.

Also, it's ironic that Diddy says he'll get his friends yet fails to get DK involved.

I've yet to hear a single good reason as to what's wrong with the Touch Screen controls.

I'm not sure if I just suck at it or no, I played a handful of plane races and the AI just seemed to disappear into the distance..never to be seen again (this is in multiplayer).

I thought this was odd, since I've completed both Adventures 1 & 2 in the original...a long long time ago...

Also, co-op Adventure was one of the most epic multiplayer experiences on the N64.
YES!!

DKRDS had touch screen controls? Oh, I knew that, haven't played in a long while.

Taj's Baloon challenges.

And tapping the screen doesn't pick up the fastest.

The thing is, though, they're far easier than the Silver Coin challenges. So really, complaining about that is unfair if the Silver Coin challenges weren't problems to begin with.

Thing is, I enjoyed the challenge of the Silver Coin Challenges, so I felt cheated.

But... There ARE Silver Coin challenges. They're just not part of the adventure mode.
