Um...what? Mario 64 is completely free-roaming whereas Sonic games (even 3D ones) are generally linear.

At least make sense.

Don't worry, I did too. Since there are two of us, we can attest it to poor wording to make ourselves feel better .

I'll make you feel even better because I read it the same way.

I really don't play Sonic games... Only 3D one I played was Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, because a friend gave it to me for my birthday once. It wasn't any good, so I will, with little sample, say Sonic.

I've never liked the Sonic formula. It's always just run and avoid stuff. What they need to do is make a Sonic game like Wario Land 4 or Sabrewulf, where you have to solve puzzles and do some platforming throughout the level, then race back to the beginning once you reach the end.

If a Sonic game like that is released, I'd be sure to get it.

I can see why you guys read it that way.

Whatever.

Yeah, and no one wants to play linear adventure games anymore. Even Sonic's 2D games have more variety. Sonic games haven't done anything but downgrade since SA2.

^I agree with this.^
They should focus more on making Sonic games good instead of just being... fast. That's one of the reasons Mario is so successful. The format of his games allow more flexibility. Platforming, puzzle solving, exploration, etc...

All sonic games have are speed. And correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not even sure they have that anymore.

I'm astounded at how such a fast paced game can be so ****ing boring. Maybe that's why I hate those games where you ride around in cars. That's essentially all you do. STEER SONIC AROUND AND TRY NOT TO HIT WALLS AND VARIOUS OBJECTS WITH HIM. That pretty much sums up all the gameplay mechanics in every 3D Sonic game to date.

I quite like 3D Sonic being linear. You get to run fas over a long distance. Unless you're Big. He sucks.

I'm confused. I read it and it sounded perfectly structured.

Oh well.

So... what, you can't do that in a free-roaming style game? Speed in 3D can work. Burnout 3 and beyond are an example of that. And though it's a racing game, it's virtually the same concept with platforming added in. The only thing is, Sonic Team is either not nearly talented enough or committed enough to making Sonic games of a great quality.

Well, he changed it to "This is what Sonic Team should do" which makes perfect sense.

Before it said...

Quote:
Sonic Team's key to success:

Make Mario 64, slap Sonic in there, make it fast paced. Or something similar. I'm just really tired of these stupid obstacle course games. They get old fast.
Which to me sounded like...

Quote:
Sonic Team's "key to success" (how they thought they could sell Sonic):

Make Mario 64, slap Sonic in there, make it fast paced, surely people will buy it because they like Mario and this game is faster.
There was actually nothing wrong with the original wording on the whole, we just read it wrong .

Ah, I see. Because I figured he meant replace all the Mario models and locations in the game with Sonic-centric ones, so I wasn't confused.

I don't see the shame in following in Nintendo's footsteps. Mario set the standards, and Sonic Team just refuses to live up to them. They'll continue to make linear games with no replay value simply because they're stubborn and lazy.

Or "pressed for time" as they'd put it, which is a sad excuse they should be ashamed of even considering to use.

Pressed for time? You're kidding, right? Let's let a 2 decade old franchise die because Sega wants your game out NOW.

Hmm...

Must say... argh... Sonic. Surprise?

I like Sonic more than Mario, but his new games is just horrible. I didn't like Sonic & The Secret Rings (and many said that it was best Sonic game ever), Sonic the Hedgehog's (Xbox360) loading times was terrible and game was too glitchy, etc etc. I also don't like the new style in 2D-games: Run as fast as you can, and you're finished. Sonic Rush was just running forward.

Old days Sonic was way better. Sonic Adventure 2 was last AWESOME Sonic game, like many of you already said. Why can't they make another game like Sonic Adventure 2!?

"I quite like 3D Sonic being linear. You get to run fas over a long distance." True. I love that also.

But today, Mario is better... Super Mario Galaxy is awesome, Super Paper Mario was nice little game, etc etc. Mario > Sonic, nowadays.

Still, I'm going to beat you all with Sonic in Brawl. :>

In Sonic games you can fall through floors and die (alot).
Sonic games have terrible controlls.
Sonic games have terrible voiceacting.
Sonic games have terribly written storylines (that somehow manages to be more predictable than Mario's "save the princess from King Koopa" cliché).
Sonic games have the "Seven Rings in Hand" song.

Mario games don't.

I vote Sonic.

Yeah. Every single Sonic game had those issues. Oh, wait. They didn't.
