Banjo-Kazooie Developer Diary #4

Banjo-Kazooie.com has updated once more, this time with a fourth developer diary. This one is the first of a two-parter detailing Showdown Town's creation and evolution over the course of the game's development. Interestingly, it appears a very early idea was for Mumbo to have a mansion, where there would be a scoreboard comparing Banjo and Grunty's progress, as well as the gym in town being owned by Jamjars (instead of Boggy) and to have Pawno's emporium in the town. Also of note, it appears there were planned to be six worlds in the game originally. They also even list the real-life inspirations for many of the things in Showdown Town.

In addition to all the information, there is also an early concept sketch of the previously-mentioned "Mumbo's Mansion," a hand-drawn map of Showdown Town, and a very early in-game rendering of the town.

That's it for now. Go check out the developer diary for the full story, and be sure to share your thoughts in our forums.

UPDATE: Part 2 is up, which expands upon the last one. It explains the town's layout and how it came to be that way, the fact that Showdown Town was originally even larger than it is now but had to be "trimmed" so to speak in order to keep a consistent frame rate, and a bit about the hubworld's day-night system. Be sure to give it a read.
